Q & A about inkDrinkDraw
What will be happening at a inkDrinkDraw meets?
Besides drinking, eating and drawing? Honestly we don't always have a "big plan" for the meets.
The meets are ment to be relaxed fun with other artist, Brian and I try to have demos or discussion topics at each meet, but really YOU involved too ! We'd love to have people will bring "Works in Progress", "Current Projects" or "How-To's" to show and share, in the Arts, Comics and Cartooning, fields there's always plenty to talk about and we don't claim to know it all.
Other Things we'd like to have the group involved in:
Portfolio Reviews.
Helpful Group Critiques of works.
Show & Discuss Your Projects.
Assist people with basic drawing skills or techniques.
How-To Demos for making a comic strips, comic books or tools and techniques.
Marketing ideas for Comics, Web sites ect.
Share tips on how to table at comic conventions.
Anything that helps us be better at what we all want to do, MAKE ART !
Where is inkDrinkDraw going to be held?
One major change from our other group is that inkDrinkDraw will attempt to meet at a variety of locations around the city where we can eat, drink and draw. We hope this will give inkDrinkDraw meeting a different energy, thus helping it keep from getting stale like meeting at the same location all the time can. We also hope this will open up opportunities for people we haven't met or drawn with before to come and join us.
Locations and locations being scouted:
We currently have:
Borderlands Cafe (Valencia st. in the Mission)
Church St Cafe (Church st. at Market St)
Hooters SF (near Pier 39) Food, Beer and built-in models too :)
These places love having us, but we are trying to make arrangements with some other locations too:
Pizzeria (Valencia St. in the Mission) big tables, lots of space and great pizza.
Tommy's Joint has been suggested but not yet investigated.
But if you know a great place feel free to offer suggestions for locations that would like to have a group of people sketching and discussing assorted art subjects. Location should have a accessable location, decent size tables, good lighting, food and beverages. While locations with food and beverages is preferred (with or without Alcohol) it's not a requirement if the location is interesting/fun).
So who's behind inkDrinkDraw?
George Webber and fellow artist Brian Kolm. (Read more about us at Meet the Artists)
(BUT you can be TOO ! If you have an interesting art topic or other idea you'd like to share, get in touch with us !!) George & Brian came up with the idea of inkDrinkDraw as an evolution to another drawing group in order to reenergize interest in an artist drawing group. Both Brian and I love drawing, making comics, cartoons and most of all talking to or helping other like minded artist.
Are George and Brian famous artist or something?
No not "Famous", but certanily not "Unknown" and we don't claim to be the "best" or "smartest" artist around either. Between us we've made more mistakes and missteps than most artists and still came out on top as nothing teaches better than a few hard knocks, but maybe we can help keep others starting out or having troubles from making the same mistakes. We have plenty of skills, about 30 or 40 years of experience between us and we'd love to share that all with you.
So inkDrinkDraw is really ... ?
Really the whole idea behind inkDrinkDraw is to get out of the house/studio and meet other artistic people, get together and have some dinner and a few drinks and have fun sketching, drawing, talking and learning from each other. Also we'd like inkDrinkDraw to be an opportunity for artist to show their work, do art demos or whatever you want to share with other artistic people.
